In a recent address at the ‘Capitol Hill Summit 2026’ in Washington, India’s Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, highlighted the significant transformations in India over the past decade that have redefined Indo-US relations. According to Kwatra, the reforms initiated post-2014 have considerably enhanced trade, investment, and strategic collaboration between the two nations. He emphasized that these changes have given a new direction to their partnership.
Kwatra noted that India is currently undergoing a phase of substantial change, characterized by rapid economic growth and policy reforms. Speaking at an event organized by the America-India Friendship Council, he pointed out that these developments have strengthened global partnerships, allowing India and the United States to explore cooperation in emerging areas. This, he stated, is a key reason for the expanding scope of collaborations between the two countries.
The Indian ambassador revealed ambitious plans to boost bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030, a significant increase from the existing trade volume of approximately $220 billion. He mentioned that the partnership is not limited to commerce but is also advancing rapidly in sectors such as technology, energy, and manufacturing, reflecting a multifaceted engagement.
Highlighting progress in defense collaboration, Kwatra remarked that India has become a major international user of several critical American defense platforms. He noted the enhanced military cooperation as both countries work jointly to address shared security challenges. The growing coordination between India and the United States aims to maintain stability in the Indo-Pacific region, he added.
During the program, Kwatra also discussed potential collaborations in the civilian nuclear energy sector. He mentioned that the implementation of the SHANTI Act has opened new avenues for private companies to engage in this field, which is expected to further boost technical and industrial cooperation between the nations. Additionally, he referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to the US Congress, underlining that India and the US are not only strategic partners but also natural allies sharing democratic values. The summit was attended by prominent American leaders, including Representatives Ro Khanna, Deborah Ross, Tim Moore, and Senator Steve Daines, who participated in discussions on the future of Indo-US relations, global security, and economic cooperation. Experts believe this partnership will play a crucial role in global politics and trade in the coming years.
